~Tryouts for 2008-2009 Season~

 We are pleased that you are considering Somerset Hills for your soccer player(s). We wish everyone success. The Somerset Hills Soccer Club travel program provides players with an opportunity to play in a more competitive environment.

Playing on a SHSC travel team requires a year long commitment by the player and the family. Practices begin in August and typically meet two times per week. League play involves 10 games (5 home and 5 away) and will run from September through November. In spring, the season follows the same time frame from mid-March through the first week in June. While games usually take place on Sundays, rescheduled games could occur on Saturdays and mid-week. Players should also expect to enjoy tournament participation which usually fills an entire weekend, most often on holidays such as Memorial Day, Labor Day or Columbus Day weekend. 

The Club utilizes professional trainers for all travel teams. These trainers represent various local soccer organizations as well as some independent soccer professionals. They organize and run all practices and will be present to coach at games. Although these professional trainers are employed by the Club, we have found that each team needs to have a committed parental manager. The parent coach will be responsible for good communication between the club, team members and trainer. The parent coach will facilitate the team registration and communication with opponents as well as act as coach in the trainer’s absence. Team managers may also be needed. The cost involved for participation is approximately $400 per season plus uniform costs. The fee is paid at the beginning of each fall and spring season. Financial assistance is available and can be obtained by completing a financial assistance form.

The Somerset Hills Soccer Club has been in existence for over 35 years. We have strived to maintain strong, competitive teams while filling our rosters with players from the Somerset Hills area. These tryouts are our effort to properly place players on teams based on their performance on the tryout nights. In addition, trainers and coaches will have input into the final team selection since actual season performance is equally important.

Players can expect to hear of the club’s decision between June 1^st and 6^th with the first team in each age group being notified first. Our U8s will hear much sooner.  Notification will be made by email or phone. 

The team practice schedule will be published soon so that families know when age groups are practicing.  We hope this will aid in planning family activities.

Somerset Hills Soccer Club will be holding tryouts for 2008-2009 on the dates, times and locations for the age groups indicated. Please check the age groupings carefully to be sure the player attends the correct tryout.

With the exception of U8’s, all age groups will have two (2) tryout days. Players should try to attend both. Players should arrive 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time to check in. All participants are required to register no later than 48 hours prior to tryout by going to the club website at www.shsc.net  The fee is $10

All players must wear shin guards!
