The Somerset Hills Soccer Club (SHSC) announces this year’s recipients of the SHSC/Jack Kimzey Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded annually to a male and female graduating senior pursuing college or trade school after high school. The Somerset Hills Soccer Club/Jack Kimzey Memorial Scholarship is given in memory of Jack Kimzey, a Basking Ridge youth, who died in 2006. Jack was an avid soccer player and a member of the club for several years.
SHSC saw a record number of qualified applications this year. The two high school seniors selected are both scholars, athletes and have demonstrated great character and citizenship through community service and other personal challenges they have undertaken and as such serve as excellent role models to our youth and community. The 2009 recipients are Caroline Bozzi of Basking Ridge who attended Ridge High School and John Swadba of Bernardsville, who attended Delbarton. Throughout her high school career Caroline balanced effectively her academics, sports and community service. She was an accomplished student while participating in soccer and track as well as working diligently on her Girl Scout Gold Award through a community service project to redesign rooms in the Bethel Ridge Adult Home in order to enhance the use of the space and make them more attractive. Equally as impressive is John Swadba’s high school academic and extracurricular accomplishments. While at Delbarton John played soccer all four years as well as ran track. He was involved in the school yearbook, the debate team, the history club and was active in tutoring and Appalachia community service projects. This fall Caroline will be furthering her education at the University of Cincinnati School of Architecture and Design while John Swadba will be heading to Boston College.
SHSC congratulates both Caroline and John on their accomplishments as well as thank them for their contributions to the community and wish them well in their new endeavors.
