Chatham United Memorial Day Tournament, 2009

May 23

Lightning 3, Randolph Power 2. Lightning opened the tournament with a victory when Allie Matthias scored the gamewinner to break open a hard fought back and forth match. Alexa Farrell and Brynn McKeon’s strong play in defense and midfield were instrumental in securing the win. Jessica Caruso and Annie Thomas also scored for the Lightning.

Lightning 1, Chatham United Wildcats 0. Annie Thomas’ first half strike proved to be the winner in a match that was cut short and declared complete in the 37th minute due to thunderstorms.  Ally Lindsey had an excellent game in midfield and Madison Mitzner contributed solid defensive minutes and made 3 key saves during a shift in goal.

May 24

Lightning rolled to a 5-0 victory against the Chatham Jaguars thanks to goals from Ally Lindsey, Annie Thomas. Lindsey Sheehan put in a great performance on the wing, and Madison Lui and Regan Chatwin provided valuable minutes as well.

Lightning 3, Livingston 1. Lightning finished the half down a goal . Midway through the 2nd Half Annie Thomas equalized the score. Strong pressure from Thomas, Lindsey Sheehan, Caitlyn Laffey, Jessica Caruso and Nicole Picardo kept the ball pinned in Livingston’s half for most of the last 10 minutes and thanks to that team pressure, Annie Thomas and Caitlyn Laffey scored two goals to put the Lightning ahead of their league rivals and secure the tournament victory.
